Dec 2011: Have you been loved enough?
In the second half of Mark 10:21 Jesus told a rich man who came to Him to "...go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me." This is an amazing verse about the call of our God crying out to each and every one of us to lay down our lives and take up something far greater, a call for us to believe God and seek after what He calls 'success' rather that what maybe our society calls 'success'. Yet in our culture of today, the truly amazing part about this verse is actually found in the first half of Mark 10:21, which says "Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest:"

Jesus pointed out a fault, He corrected where there was lack, and in this particular incident He even did it publicly. Wow! Today many would say "Jesus, surely You can't talk to people like that can You?, that guy might not have felt very nice after having his fault pointed out like that, and surely to make someone not feel nice surely isn't love?... is it?"

Well, the Bible actually continues to say in Mark 10:22 that this guy did indeed feel 'sad' and even went away 'grieved' from the Jesus who had just 'loved' him. How can this be so? Well, simply because our definition of love has strayed from the Biblical definition of love. Jesus loved many enough to heal them of sicknesses, and He loved many enough to feed them when they were hungry. And Jesus loved this guy enough to confront the area that even he didn't want to face, his self idolatry, something according to the Bible that would have landed him an eternity in hell if it weren't for someone loving enough to reason with him, and offer him a way out so that he might truly live a life of freedom and fruitfulness before God.

1Pe 4:8  And above all things have fervent charity [love] among yourselves: for charity [love] shall cover the multitude of sins.

Jas 5:19  Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Jas 5:20  Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Now let me ask you, have you been loved enough today? Have you been reasoned with by a true shepherd that cares for you? Or have you been left to your own destructive desires and ideas by so called 'shepherds' who dont care enough to properly disciple believers? Because the Jesus of the Bible loves you enough today to set you free of sickness and disease, He loves you enough today to supply where you lack with grace and encouragement, and lastly as the Bible clearly shows us, the Jesus of the Bible loves you enough today to tell you the Truth and shepherd you, so that you might truly be free. And that my friend is loving enough.

John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Blessings,

Ps Glen Travica
